GKS Scholarship Eligibility

Undergraduate (GKS-U)

  • Age: 25 years or below
  • Completed 12th Standard with 80%+ in all subjects
  • Both applicant and parents must be non-Korean nationals
  • Good health — medical certificate required
  • No restriction on academic field

Graduate (GKS-G)

  • Age: 40 years or below
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with CGPA 2.64/4.0 (≈60%)
  • Both applicant and parents must be non-Korean nationals
  • English or Korean proficiency (IELTS/TOPIK)
  • Research proposal required for graduate programmes

What is the GKS Scholarship deadline for 2026?
The Embassy Recommendation track typically opens in January–February with deadline in March 2026. The University Recommendation track varies by university but is generally in September–November. IMA alerts students when applications open.
Who is eligible for the GKS Scholarship?
GKS Undergraduate: Age 25 or below, completed 12th with 80%+ in all subjects, both parents must be non-Korean. GKS Graduate: Age 40 or below, completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree with CGPA 2.64/4.0 or higher (equivalent to approximately 60%), parents non-Korean.
How competitive is GKS?
GKS is highly competitive — South Korea receives applications from 140+ countries with limited spots. Approximately 150–200 spots are available for Indian students across both UG and PG tracks. Strong academics, a well-written study plan, and relevant extracurriculars significantly improve chances.
Do I need Korean language skills for GKS?
No Korean is required at the time of application. All GKS scholars attend a mandatory 1-year Korean Language Institute course before their main degree begins — fully paid by NIIED. If you already have TOPIK Level 3+, you may be exempt from the language year.
