Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) is a prestigious EU-funded scholarship that allows students to study in 2–3 European countries and earn a joint or double degree. It covers full tuition, health insurance, and €1,400/month (around €16,800/year) for up to 24 months. That monthly amount is a single combined contribution that also covers travel, visa and installation costs.

Each Erasmus Mundus programme has a consortium of 2–3 universities across different EU countries. Popular combinations for Indian students include France+Germany, Italy+Spain, Netherlands+Finland, and many more. You study in multiple countries over 1–2 years.

Very competitive, but there is no single published EU-wide acceptance rate, and it varies enormously by programme. Roughly 3,000 scholarships are awarded each year across 200+ joint masters, and individual programmes often admit only 20–40 students. For India specifically, the EU Delegation reported 153 Indian awardees from 756 Indian applications in 2021, and 75 Indian awardees for the 2026–28 cycle. A strong academic record, a specific motivation letter, research experience and relevant publications all improve your chances. Most EMJM programmes require IELTS 6.5–7.5. Some technical programmes accept TOEFL iBT 90–100. Language requirements vary by programme and the countries in the consortium.
