Before you apply: recognition and fees
NMC does not publish or endorse a list of foreign medical universities. To practise in India you must qualify NEET, and NMC requires Indian graduates of foreign medical courses to qualify the prescribed screening test. Its 2021 regulations for foreign medical graduates are also reported to require at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution and English-medium teaching. Fees on this page are indicative, change every year and are not an official fee schedule, so get the current fee in writing from the university.
MBBS via Caribbean — FAQs
What is the Caribbean route for MBBS in the USA?
Caribbean medical schools (like Ross University and St. George's University) are accredited by ECFMG and USMLE-eligible. Students complete basic sciences in the Caribbean (2 years) then clinical rotations in US hospitals (2 years), making them eligible for US medical residency.
Is this a valid MBBS route for Indian students?
Yes. Graduates of Caribbean medical schools are eligible for USMLE (US Medical Licensing Exam). To return to India, they must also clear NEXT. IMA helps plan the full pathway based on your career goals.
What is the cost of MBBS via Caribbean route?
This is the most expensive MBBS abroad option — annual tuition ranges from USD 40,000–60,000 ($40–50 lakh/yr). Total 4-year program cost can exceed ₹1.5–2 crore. Suitable for students targeting US medical careers.
How long is the program?
Caribbean MD programs are typically 4 years: 2 years of preclinical sciences on the island, then 2 years of clinical rotations in affiliated US hospitals. This shorter timeline (vs 6-year MBBS) is possible because of the US medical system structure.
