A university-by-university guide to UK scholarships open to Indian students for autumn 2027, covering about 100 UK universities checked against the web: Manchester, Imperial, Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, Exeter, Royal Holloway, Stirling, UEA and more, with values, deadlines and what is still unconfirmed.

UK Universities Offering Scholarships for Indian Students: Autumn 2027 Intake
ℹ️

Quick answer: Many UK universities publish scholarships that Indian applicants can get for September 2027 entry. We checked about 100 of the UK's roughly 160 universities, and this guide lists what each one's page confirms. Confirmed on university pages as of November 2026: Manchester (£12,000 for master's, £36,000 for undergraduates), Glasgow (£12,500 business school award and a £5,000 automatic award), Leeds (£6,000 automatic for Indian passport holders, plus merit awards of £3,000 to £16,000), Newcastle (£8,000 master's and £7,000 per year undergraduate, plus larger Vice-Chancellor's awards), Exeter (£10,000 master's and £3,000 per year undergraduate, automatic), Sheffield (£7,000), Southampton (up to £12,000), Edinburgh (£5,000), Bath (£5,000), York (£5,000 to £8,000 a year) and Nottingham (£3,000). Most are tuition discounts, not cash, and some close as early as March and April 2027. Always read the current terms on the university's page, because values and dates change.

Scholarship lists on the internet are often copied from earlier years. This guide only gives a value and a date where we read it on the university's own page, as of November 2026, and it says plainly where a page covered a different year or did not say. Treat it as a map of where to look, then confirm the terms before you apply.

University of Manchester: Global Futures Scholarship

  • Master's: £12,000, awarded as a discount on international tuition fees. You must be an international fee-paying student domiciled in India (having predominantly lived there in the last three years), hold an offer for a full-time on-campus master's and apply by 25 April 2027. Half the awards are offered by 15 March 2027 and the rest by 1 June 2027, and early applicants who miss out are automatically reconsidered.
  • Master's exclusions: applicants who studied their bachelor's outside South Asia, and courses such as MBA, MPhil, architecture, PGCE and clinical medicine and dentistry.
  • Undergraduate: £36,000 (£12,000 a year over three years) for direct first-year entry in 2027 with, or working towards, Indian Standard XII, A-levels or the IB Diploma. Apply by 30 March 2027 and select Manchester as your firm UCAS choice by 15 May 2027. Successful applicants are notified by 1 May 2027. Continuing the award needs 60% in exams and assessments each year, and medicine, dentistry, architecture and foundation-year courses are excluded.

University of Glasgow

  • ASBS Indian Excellence Award: a £12,500 fee waiver for Indian nationals with an offer for an eligible one-year taught programme at the Adam Smith Business School for the September 2027 intake. It closes on 29 April 2027 at 11:45 UK time, and funding may be allocated earlier, so apply early.
  • World Changers Glasgow Scholarship: a £5,000 tuition discount, awarded automatically, with India on the list of eligible countries for September 2027 and January 2028 entry. It cannot be combined with another University scholarship.

University of Leeds

  • Masters International Regional Scholarship: a £6,000 fee reduction for passport holders from eligible countries, which include India, starting a master's in September 2027. You do not apply, because it is awarded automatically to eligible self-funded or partly funded students. It cannot be deferred, and MBA courses, fully online courses and the two-year LLB Law graduate programme are excluded.
  • Masters International Excellence Scholarships: £3,000, £6,000 or £16,000 off first-year tuition for September 2027, for applicants with a strong academic record (at least a 2:1 or equivalent). Round one closes on 28 February 2027 with results by 2 April 2027, and round two closes on 16 May 2027. The page also shows a single "final deadline" of 28 February 2027, so confirm the round-two date with Leeds.
  • Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2027: a fully funded award for Indian citizens, but reports say the deadline was 20 October 2026, so it has closed for this cycle.

Newcastle University

Newcastle's India page lists these awards for September 2027 entry:

  • Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships, postgraduate: £8,000 off tuition, with an application required. Awards may be allocated early in the cycle, so apply early.
  • Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships, undergraduate: £7,000 off tuition for the full degree. There is no closing date, and eligible applications are considered throughout the year.
  • Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarships, postgraduate: up to 50% off tuition for outstanding international applicants, with 30 awards available and a closing date of 8 June 2027.
  • Newcastle India Leadership and Innovation Scholarship: for applicants from India starting a one-year master's. The page does not state the amount or the closing date, so check Newcastle directly.

University of Exeter

Exeter's India page lists scholarships for Indian students that are applied automatically, with no separate application: £3,000 for each eligible year of study for undergraduates starting in September 2027, and £10,000 for postgraduate taught students starting in September 2027. A limited number of programmes may be excluded, and terms and deadlines apply. The page also lists the wider Exeter Excellence Scholarships at £15,000 for September 2027, for undergraduates (each year) and postgraduate taught students (first year), which are not India-specific.

University of Edinburgh: India Merit Scholarship

A £5,000 tuition fee reduction for the 2027/28 academic year, for an unconditional offer on a full-time, on-campus taught master's. You must be domiciled in India with international fee status, be fully or partly self-funded, and hold an Indian undergraduate degree that meets the minimum grade on the university's page. It is applied automatically. The page gives no separate deadline, but missing the deposit deadline in your offer letter forfeits the scholarship and the offer, and the award cannot be deferred.

University of Sheffield: International Postgraduate Scholarship 2027

A £7,000 tuition fee reduction for offer holders from India and other listed countries starting a taught postgraduate degree in September 2027, awarded automatically. You must have lived in a listed country for the last three years, study full-time and self-funded, and accept your offer before 4pm UK time on 6 July 2027. It cannot be deferred, does not apply to PGDip or PGCert courses and cannot be combined with full or partial external sponsorship.

University of Southampton

Southampton's India page says postgraduate students from India automatically receive up to £12,000, and that competitive awards can raise this to £25,000. For undergraduates it describes up to £12,000, with £3,000 towards tuition each year for up to four years. The page does not give the entry year or full eligibility, so confirm both on the university's scholarship search before relying on it.

University of Bath

The Bath Merit Scholarship is a £5,000 fee waiver for a full-time, campus-based taught master's starting in 2027. India is an eligible country. You must be permanently domiciled in India and have studied your whole degree there, hold the equivalent of a UK high 2:2, and be an overseas fee payer who has not studied at Bath before. You are considered automatically, and it cannot be combined with a Bath Global Excellence Scholarship, a GREAT Scholarship or other university funding. Bath also runs larger excellence awards, but we could not confirm their 2027 terms on its pages, so check them on the Bath scholarships page.

University of York and University of Nottingham

  • York: the International Masters Scholarship is worth £5,000 to £8,000 for each year of study for 2027/28, and India is among the listed countries. The page does not say whether it is automatic, and it gives no deadline, so confirm how to apply on York's scholarship page.
  • Nottingham: the International Postgraduate Masters Scholarship is £3,000 for self-funded international students starting year one of a full-time UK-campus taught master's in 2027, deducted automatically from tuition. For a two-year master's it applies to the first year only, and where several awards apply the highest one is used.

University of Bristol and the GREAT Scholarships

The University of Bristol's Think Big Scholarships for September 2027 entry give funding towards tuition fees to overseas-fee students on in-person undergraduate courses (up to four years) and one-year taught master's courses. Apply by 1pm UK time on 19 March 2027. The page does not state an amount, and the same form also considers you for the GREAT Scholarships and other awards.

The British Council's GREAT Scholarships for India are worth £10,000 each towards tuition, with £5,000 from the British Council and at least £5,000 from the university. The 2027 notice lists 10 awards for India, for students who enrol at a UK higher education institution in autumn 2027. UK universities were asked to bid by 4 September 2026, so which universities and subjects take part depends on their bids, and deadlines vary by university. On 14 October 2026 the British Council announced that four Greater Manchester institutions are taking part in the 2027 round: Manchester Metropolitan University, the Royal Northern College of Music, the University of Manchester and the University of Salford, for a one-year postgraduate course in 2027/28 (as reported in the announcement). We could not find a complete official list of participating universities, so check the British Council India page and each university. The number of awards and participating universities may change.

  • Imperial College London: the Imperial Inspires scholarships are worth £15,000 per year for each year of the course, with at least 300 awards across Engineering, Natural Sciences, Medicine and the Business School, for international students paying the overseas rate who apply for autumn 2027. You apply for a course first (UCAS for undergraduates, the My Imperial site for postgraduates). If you qualify and your course has an award, you are invited to apply when applications open in October 2026. Imperial's India Future Leaders Scholarship (£10,000) was listed for 2026/27 only, so check whether it returns.
  • Royal Holloway: the India Masters Scholarship is a £6,000 tuition fee reduction in the first year for full-time master's students currently living in India, for January or September 2027 starts. It is automatic and cannot be combined with other Royal Holloway fee scholarships. Residence, not nationality, decides eligibility.
  • University of Stirling: the Postgraduate India Scholarship is a £7,000 tuition fee waiver for students living in India who study full-time on the Stirling campus, for January 2027, September 2027 and January 2028 starts. It is automatic, and a £1,000 deposit by a set date secures it (for example, 1 February 2027 if you applied between 1 September and 15 December 2026, and 1 April 2027 if you applied between 15 December 2026 and 28 February 2027). The page's table has a heading error, so confirm the dates with Stirling.
  • University of East Anglia: the International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship gives £10,000 a year for lab-based courses in the Faculty of Science, £7,000 for Economics, Law, Psychology and Norwich Business School, and £5,000 for most other courses starting in September 2027. It is confirmed automatically after your offer, excludes medicine and several health courses, and is not India-specific.
  • Durham University: Durham's GREAT India Scholarship is reported at £15,000 towards tuition for an eligible taught master's starting in September 2027, for Indian passport holders with a first-class equivalent degree. The reported timeline is to apply for the course by 7 March 2027, hold an unconditional offer by 18 April 2027 and submit the scholarship form by 9 May 2027. We could not open Durham's page to confirm this, so check it directly.
  • University of Reading: the Felix Scholarships fund up to five Indian students for a master's or PhD, covering international tuition fees and a living stipend of about £17,894, with interviews in India. Reading's page says the 2026 round is closed and points to felixscholarship.org for 2027 details.
  • University of Surrey: its International Excellence Awards are listed as £5,000 fee waivers for undergraduate and postgraduate September 2027 entry, open to self-funded international students, with closing dates in August 2027. They are not India-specific, so check the current terms.
  • Other undergraduate awards found: Loughborough's International Excellence Scholarships (up to £3,000, automatic, September 2027) and Swansea's Thrive Bursary (£4,000 in the first year for students domiciled in India, automatic). We read these only in search results, so confirm them on the universities' pages.

Further Universities: London, Scotland and Northern Ireland

  • SOAS, University of London: the Felix Scholarship covers full tuition fees, living costs and a return air fare for Indian nationals who are not currently living or studying outside India and hold at least a first-class bachelor's degree from an Indian university. You must show financial need and apply through the admissions portal by 11:59 UK time on 26 February 2027, with at least a conditional offer by then. Outcomes are expected by June 2027. The page does not state the entry year or the number of awards.
  • Robert Gordon University: the GREAT Scholarship is £10,000 for citizens of India, Egypt or Kenya on a full-time, on-campus postgraduate programme, with applications closing at midnight GMT on 1 June 2027. The page refers to the September scholarship but does not name the year, and it gives both 2 and 3 as the number of awards, so confirm with RGU.
  • Queen Mary University of London: its India page mentions scholarships of up to £8,000 for highly qualified international offer holders joining eligible programmes in 2027. It does not name the award, say how to apply or give deadlines, and it is not India-specific.
  • Ulster University: reported to offer a £10,000 GREAT Scholarship 2027 towards one-year master's tuition starting in September 2027, with a 31 March 2027 deadline. We could not open the page to see whether India is on the country list, so check it before applying.
  • Heriot-Watt University: its International Merit Scholarship covers September and January 2027 entry as a partial fee reduction for the first year, with the value varying by region and no India amount stated on the page.
  • University of Hull (read on its page): a GREAT Scholarship of up to £10,000 as a tuition fee reduction for one student in India (and one in Vietnam) on a full-time postgraduate taught programme starting in January or February 2027, not autumn. You need a 2:1 or equivalent, IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each skill, and no previous study in the UK. The page gives a deadline of midnight on 12 November 2026, so it may close very soon.
  • Brunel University London: reported to offer a £4,000 International Bursary for self-funded postgraduate taught students for January 2027, with a 30 November 2026 deadline. Its GREAT 2027 India scholarship was not yet open.

Still More Universities, Checked From the Web

Smaller and newer universities often publish their awards later and change them each year. For these, the entries below were read on the university's page where marked, or taken from search results where marked "reported". Treat every entry as a pointer to the university's own page, and confirm before you count on it.

  • UWE Bristol (read on its page): a GREAT Scholarship 2027 worth a minimum of £10,000 towards one-year postgraduate study, with one award for Indian applicants. You need to be an Indian citizen with an unconditional offer and a CGPA of at least 3.0 (first class or equivalent), and not be sponsored. Apply with a personal statement of up to 400 words by 23:59 GMT on 2 May 2027. Interviews start 17 May 2027 and awards are announced on 29 May 2027. The page does not name the intake date.
  • University of Lincoln (read on its page): an India Scholarship for full-time overseas-fee postgraduate taught students from India, with no separate application. The page does not state the value or the entry year, so confirm both with Lincoln.
  • Nottingham Trent University (reported): an automatic £2,000 award for new master's students from India starting in September 2027, plus Prestigious University Awards of up to £4,000 for master's students. Its September 2027 scheme opens later in the year.

The page does not cover September 2027, so check back for the 2027 round.

The page shows no 2027 date, so confirm the amounts.
  • Leeds Beckett University (reported): its international scholarship lists India as eligible, with £1,000 a year for undergraduates, £3,000 for postgraduates in the first year, and £1,500 a year for research courses, with no application. The page does not mention 2027 specifically.
  • Bath Spa University (reported): the Hall Commonwealth Scholarship is open to Commonwealth countries, which include India, with one undergraduate award of £9,500 and one postgraduate award of £3,000 expected for 2026/27, applications October to November 2026.

These universities showed general international awards or earlier-year awards but nothing India-specific for September 2027: Manchester Metropolitan, Birmingham City, Brighton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Plymouth, Bradford, De Montfort (£8,500 for September 2026), Bedfordshire (an India undergraduate award for 2026/27), Derby (a GREAT India award listed for 2025), Wolverhampton, Teesside, West of Scotland, Goldsmiths, Roehampton, London South Bank, Greenwich (its regional award excludes South Asia), Edge Hill (a GREAT page for 2026 with conflicting country lists), Liverpool Hope, Chichester, Cumbria, Harper Adams, Falmouth, York St John, Dundee (its GREAT India award was for 2026/27), St Andrews and Strathclyde. Check each university's scholarship page for the 2027 round.

January 2027 and Other Intakes

If you can start in January 2027 instead of autumn, a few more awards are live: Dundee's Global Excellence Scholarship for postgraduates (£8,000, closing 29 January 2027, for programmes with a fee of at least £22,250), Oxford Brookes' £2,000 international scholarship (deposit by 4 December 2026) and Birmingham's Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship (an automatic £5,000, deadline 7 December 2026). Portsmouth's Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship (£5,000) covers January and May 2027 entry.

Where the 2027 Terms Were Not Confirmed

We found these universities' India awards only for earlier cycles or without a 2027 amount. They are worth watching, since many reopen each year, but do not plan around them until the 2027 terms are published.

  • Birmingham: the Postgraduate Chancellor's Scholarship for India (£10,000) and the Future Skills Scholarship covered 2026 entry and are closed. A Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship (automatic £5,000, India eligible) covers January 2027 entry, with a deadline of 7 December 2026.
  • UCL: the India Excellence Scholarship (£5,000) was published for 2026/27 and closed on 26 February 2026. Check UCL's page for the 2027/28 round.
  • King's College London: Vice-Chancellor's Awards for India-domiciled students were for 2026/27 and are closed. King's Inlaks Shivdasani PhD scholarships have a deadline of 31 March 2027, but they are for research degrees.
  • Liverpool: the Achievement Scholarship for India (£5,000, automatic, 2:1 required) is listed for 2026/27 only. Confirm whether it continues for 2027.
  • Warwick, Aberdeen, Strathclyde, Cardiff, Sussex and Lancaster: no India scholarship with a confirmed September 2027 amount and date appeared on their pages. Sussex's India master's award and Lancaster's India undergraduate and postgraduate awards exist, but we could not confirm their 2027 values.
  • Oxford and Cambridge: Oxford lists the Oxford Indira Gandhi Graduate Scholarship (one DPhil award at Somerville College) and says details for 2027/28 are still to be confirmed. Our UK scholarships guide covers Gates Cambridge.
  • Queen's University Belfast: its India awards were for 2026/27 and cannot be used for other years.
  • Leicester: several of its postgraduate awards exclude applicants domiciled in India, and its undergraduate award terms for 2027/28 were not yet published.
  • Aston, Coventry, Heriot-Watt and St Andrews: general international awards exist, but nothing India-specific with confirmed 2027 terms.
  • LSE: its India country-based awards go to Indian citizens through the Graduate Support Scheme after an offer, but we could not confirm the 2027 amounts.
  • Kent, Northumbria, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Anglia Ruskin, City St George's, Essex, Keele, Glasgow Caledonian, Edinburgh Napier and Birkbeck: awards exist for earlier years, for January 2027, or for all international students, but nothing India-specific with confirmed September 2027 terms.
  • Nothing India-specific found online: Chester, Central Lancashire, Northampton (its 2027 awards are for Thai and Indonesian nationals), the Open University, Staffordshire, Abertay, the University of the Highlands and Islands, Aberystwyth, Cardiff Metropolitan and Wrexham.
  • Not checked or nothing found: Westminster, Sunderland, Bangor, Canterbury Christ Church, Suffolk, Solent, Buckinghamshire New and the many small, specialist and arts universities. This guide is not a complete list of every UK university, so check the scholarship page of any university on your shortlist.

Chevening and Other National Schemes

Chevening is the UK government's flagship scholarship, but reports say the 2027/28 application round closed on 6 October 2026, so it is no longer open for September 2027 entry. Our UK scholarships guide covers Chevening, Commonwealth and other national schemes.

How to Choose and Apply

  • Shortlist courses first. Most awards are tied to a course and an offer, and many need an offer before you can claim them.
  • Check the entry year on every page. A page for 2026 entry does not apply to 2027.
  • Note which awards are automatic and which need a form. Edinburgh, Sheffield, Exeter, Leeds' regional award and Glasgow's World Changers award are automatic, while Manchester, Glasgow's ASBS award, Newcastle and Bristol need an application.
  • Read the exclusions. MBA, online and some professional courses are often excluded.
  • Remember most awards are tuition discounts, not cash. You still need funds for living costs and your visa.
  • Keep your offer deposit and acceptance dates, since missing them can lose a scholarship.
⚠️

Visa funding rule: the University of Manchester states that state government scholarships are not acceptable as financial evidence for student visa applications. If you rely on an Indian state scheme, check how the UK visa rules treat it before you plan around it.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using a scholarship list from 2025 or 2026 for 2027 entry.
  • Assuming scholarships stack. Many universities pay only the highest award.
  • Missing an application deadline that is earlier than the course deadline.
  • Paying an agent for a guaranteed scholarship. No one can guarantee one.

IMA (International Multilingual Academy) in Faridabad counsels students on UK admissions and scholarships. We can help you shortlist courses and universities, check which awards you are eligible for, prepare your documents and handle the application and the steps after it, including the student visa. Scholarship, admission and visa decisions belong to the universities and the UK authorities, and IMA does not guarantee them.
