French Classes in Faridabad: Course Duration, Levels and DELF Exam Costs (2026)
Written and fact-checked by Gaurav Dhamija, Founder & Director, International Multilingual Academy — 17+ years in study-abroad counselling, Faridabad.
How many hours does each French level take, and what do the DELF exams cost? A plain breakdown of the time and the exam fees, which are set by the French Embassy.
Quick answer: IMA's French course page lists each CEFR level at roughly 60 to 80 hours of instruction. Reaching B2, the level most French university and immigration routes ask for, means about 280 hours across four levels. Separately, the DELF exam itself costs ₹11,210 to ₹13,265 for an external candidate in 2026, at rates the French Embassy sets for every Alliance Française in India. Class fees and exam fees are two different bills, so ask for the class fee from the institute and budget for the exam on top.
Most pages about French classes in Faridabad tell you what French is useful for. Few tell you how long it takes or what the exam costs. This guide covers the hours and the exam fees. If you are still deciding between DELF, DALF, TEF and TCF, start with our guide to those exams first.
How Many Hours Does Each French Level Take?
IMA's French course page lists the following instruction hours per level. These are class hours, so your own practice at home comes on top.
- A1 (beginner): about 60 hours
- A2 (elementary): about 60 hours
- B1 (intermediate): about 80 hours
- B2 (upper intermediate): about 80 hours
That is roughly 280 hours from zero to B2. How many months that is depends on how often you attend. As an illustration only: at six class hours a week, 60 hours takes about ten weeks, and all four levels take about a year. Ask your institute for the actual weekly schedule, because this is the number that turns hours into months.
What Does the DELF Exam Cost?
The exam fee is paid to the examination centre, not to your coaching institute. As of April 2026, the Alliance Française network in India publishes these fees, all including GST. They are national rates decided by the French Embassy in India and apply at every Alliance Française in India.

- DELF A1: ₹11,210 (external candidate), ₹7,286 (internal)
- DELF A2: ₹11,210 (external), ₹7,848 (internal)
- DELF B1 and B2: ₹13,265 (external), ₹8,756 (internal)
- DALF C1: ₹14,553 (external), ₹9,606 (internal)
- DALF C2: ₹14,553 (external), ₹10,042 (internal)
"Internal" candidates are, in general, students who studied at that Alliance Française and take the exam soon after finishing their course. The cut-off is set by the Alliance, so check the definition with them. Fees are revised periodically, so confirm the current figure on the website of the Alliance Française where you plan to sit the exam. As of this guide's date, the nearest centre for most Faridabad candidates is in Delhi.
What to Budget, From Zero to a B2 Certificate
Add three items: the class fee for four levels, the DELF B2 exam fee (₹13,265 as an external candidate, or ₹8,756 if you qualify as internal), and travel to the exam centre. Because B2 is four levels from a standing start, multiply the per-level class fee you are quoted by four. When comparing institutes, compare that total and the cost per class hour, not the first price quoted.
