Who Was Andreas Tietze, and What Is This Fellowship?

Andreas Tietze (1914–2003) was an Austrian Turcologist, born and educated in Vienna. He taught at Istanbul University from 1938 to 1958, then at UCLA from 1958 to 1971, before returning to the University of Vienna as Professor of Turcology from 1973 to 1984. The fellowship is run by the University of Vienna's Department of Near Eastern Studies in his memory, and funds a short research stay in Vienna for scholars working on Turkish Studies.
